Q

Quisby:  This delightful adjective spells out a shady quality or behaviour, as in a "quisby business." This very claim was made by Mrs Tom Maguire in a letter to Frank Queen, the editor of the New York Clipper.  She complained that one of her California competitors ran a quisby business and was not to be believed.

Quisby was perhaps the most rascally attorney in London; and Quisby occupied chambers at Number Six, Hardenne Buildings, Temple.   “Grained for Life,” Every Saturday, A Journal of Choice Reading, December 16, 1871
