1870-71: Chicago Fire
Cotton played with Manning's Minstrels at the Dearborn Theatre in Chicago between 1870 and 1871. As is often the case, a natural disaster uproots the lives of thousands. The Great Chicago Fire was no exception. Several of the most popular theatres burned and the performers initially scattered to other cities.
