In December of 1870 Dan Bryant was performing a new skit based on Twain's short story. The skit was popular and featured a dwarf named Little Mac. Bryant's Minstrel hall was located on West 23rd Street in New York, a little over a block way from the hotel where Twain stayed for a week that December.
